Do you have a need for speed? Are you ready to take your RC car to the next level? Here a few modifications that will get you there.
While there are many RC car enthusiasts that are satisfied with their RTR or "ready to roll" remote control car’s performance right out of the box, some are looking to take it to the next level and make it go faster. But for most beginners the common question is, where do you start? Because there are many things you can add to your RC car to enhance its performance, focusing on a few simple modifications is a good place to begin.
Switching to a brushless motor if your vehicle doesn’t have one already is one thing that you may consider. Brushless motors can add speed, torque and reliability to just about any remote control car. There are many types of brushless motors with many different features, so make sure you do your research before deciding on the right one for your remote control car.
Another modification to think about for some RC cars like the Traxxas Slash for instance, is to upgrade to aluminum shocks. This will reduce weight and enhance the vehicle's stability which we all know; the better your car handles around the corners and over the jumps, the faster your car will be. If it’s winning at the track or back yard bashing, this is a great modification to make.
The most common and easiest performance enhancer would be to change your basic stock NiMh Battery to a Lipo Battery. The main advantage of a Lipo battery is that they have much better discharge rates for faster motors and that means faster speeds. As with all modifications, there are different options so be sure to find out which one suits your RC car and skill level best.
Consider yourself warned. Once you start upgrading your RC car, the more contagious it will become and for most of us, that is one of the best parts of having an RC car. So for those of you who won’t take stock for an answer, make a few of these minor modifications and they will have a major impact and make going faster, easier!
